What is permanent jewelry?
Permanent jewelry is a chain that is custom fit, welded closed, and meant to be worn every day. There is no clasp and always looks beautiful.
What’s the process?
1. Choose a chain and a charm, if you like
2. Get fitted in the location of your choice
4. Get zapped!
While the actual welding process only takes a second, the actual fitting can take time. Expect the process to take 10-15 minutes per piece.
Does it hurt?
Nope! It’s just a quick zap of light and your piece is welded together.
Chain options - You’ll choose your chain when you come in. If you want something that we don’t have, we will happily pre-order it for you.
Can I add charms? - Of course! This can be done at the time of your appointment or on a future date.
Care and maintenance - It is important to note that even though it is called permanent jewelry, it is not indestructible, you must take care of your jewelry once you leave the store. All permanent jewelry is a final sale. This is a custom fit and service.
How long will my piece last? - This depends on your activity level, lifestyle, and type of chain. For most, it will only come off when you are ready to remove it (weeks, months, years). It is metal, and it is welded on, but it is not invincible.
What do I do if the chain breaks or stretches? - If your chain breaks, make sure your put it in a safe place then bring it in. We will do our best to repair it for you for a fee. Repairs start at $30. If the chain is beyond repair, a new one will have to be purchased. Afterglow Jewelers is not liable for lost chains or charms.
Will you weld anklets or necklaces? - Yes, however please note anklets and necklaces are more likely to get snagged and stretch or break, so these should be worn at your own risk, Afterglow Jewelers is not liable for lost chains or charms.
What if I need to remove the bracelet? Can I have it welded on again later? - Yes, if you need to remove your bracelet for any reason we will gladly cut it off for you at no charge. If you need to remove it yourself, simply cut it off, preferably at the point where it was welded on. We suggest you save any materials in case you want it reattached in the future.
Can I buy Permanent Jewelry as a gift? - Gift certificates can be purchased for any amount.
Can I get permanent jewelry for my child? - Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. Children must be at least 12 years old and be able to sit completely still during the process.
Do you offer group discounts?
Yes, 5 or more pieces will receive 10% off, but please contact us ahead of time to set up an appointment so we can be sure to accommodate you.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t undergo the permanent jewelry process?
Yes, if you have a pacemaker you should not undergo the welding procedure.
What if I am hard on my things or play sports?
Permanent jewelry is not recommended for people who regularly engage in activities where snags could lead to injury such as sports, hobbies, lifestyle, or using tools and equipment. Certain charm and link styles are more likely to catch on things. Watch for points and sharp angles that can hook fabrics, for example. Simple chains will wear the best over time. Precious metals are malleable. If bracelets get caught on something and tugged, links can stretch, bend, or break altogether. Permanent bracelets are delicate by design so they are light and comfortable to wear.
What if I need to get an X-ray or MRI?
Consult your doctor if you will be required to remove your permanent jewelry during your X-ray or MRI appointment. All ferrous metals (ie stainless steel) must be removed prior to entering the MRI exam room.
If you need to remove your jewelry for any reason we will gladly cut it off for you at no charge.
If you need to remove it yourself, simply cut the ring that holds the chain together.
Re-welds cost $30
Will this give me trouble going through airport security?
You should not have any issues with your permanent jewelry when going through security. Costume jewelry may sound the alarm if it contains magnetic metal like iron, nickel, and cobalt.
